Before you go

A look inside your ears

The clinician asks about your symptoms, then checks both ears with an otoscope or a microscope before deciding how to remove the wax.
The removal

Microsuction is noisy but rarely painful. Some clinics use warm-water irrigation or a small instrument instead. Allow around half an hour.
Afterwards

Most people hear more clearly straight away. Brief dizziness or a little soreness usually settles quickly. Get help if you have pain, discharge, bleeding or worse hearing.
